Every year MHJH partners with The Food Bank of North Central Arkansas to raise money for meals by selling paper turkey feathers to students as a teacher recognition activity. Students purchase feathers for 25 cents each to show appreciation for a favorite teacher or recognize one for going the extra mile. The teacher with the most turkey feathers wins! For the past couple years, our journalism students have gotten to work the crime beat by writing a story about two alleged Turkey Bandits – our very own Coach Shrum and Coach King – who were detained by SRO Holland after being accused of stealing turkeys to win the competition. These coaches were great sports for a great cause and were both eventually exonerated on all charges! We love partnering with local charitable organizations to raise money while also recognizing the awesome work our teachers do for their students. Our teachers all say they appreciate recognition from their students more than any other type of recognition they receive!

Some children need help walking, talking, seeing, hearing, or learning. Child

disabilities and who may be entitled to special education services. If you feel

Mrs. Holmes' Foundations of Healthcare class is finishing up their Chapter on Careers in Healthcare. She polled her students on what careers interested them most and then brought in Heather Hilvert DVM, Sarah Dewey RN, Buddy Bodenhammer EMT/Paramedic, Samantha Schmeski RDA, and Dr. Brad Coleman DDS to come speak with my students about the various aspects of their careers. Students got to hear about their schooling, salaries, how to go into that career, and made community partner connections to reach out to in the future if they want to job shadow. Mrs. Holmes said: "We really do live in a wonderful community and I cannot thank these mentors enough for giving up their time to come speak to my students."
**Access to federal funds for families in Arkansas with the Child Tax Credit**
Families with no income or low income could get at least $3,000 per child with the Child Tax Credit, plus $1400 with the third stimulus payment - even if they have never filed taxes before (and if they have not yet already filed taxes this year).
There is now an easy form for people to file on their mobile devices in 15 minutes or less in English or Spanish. People have until November 15 to sign up this year at GetCTC.org/arschools.
Wednesday is our homecoming parade! Dress in layers and come celebrate! Parade begins at 5:30 at Redeemer Lutheran Church and ends at Guy Berry College & Career Academy.

It is time start preparing for our Special Olympics program here at MHPS! Our district plans to participate in Area II bowling, basketball and track events. As soon as dates and times are available, more information will be provided. In order for a student to participate, they must meet some very specific guidelines. Additionally, they must have a physical. Physical forms will be sent home soon with students. I want to remind you all that early voting on the high school renovation issue begins tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2 and goes through August 8 from 8-4:30 p.m. at the Baxter County Election Commission Headquarters on Fifth Street or at the Baxter County Courthouse.
Election day is Tuesday, August 9 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and registered voters who live within district bounds can vote at the following locations:

Baxter County Training Center in Midway
Eastside Baptist Church
Henderson Fire Station
Lakeview Civic Center
